A Different Ceiling: Vol I

The project is a photographic series that explores the unique perspective of a person experiencing homelessness. The concept is to reframe the urban environment by capturing what someone might see while lying down on the street, with their view of the sky and surrounding world framed by two towering buildings.

My inspiration for this project comes from the idea of capturing a quiet, internal moment within a chaotic public space. When we typically view cityscapes, we see them from an upright, moving position. This series intentionally shifts that viewpoint, grounding the viewer in a place of vulnerability and stillness. By presenting the world from this low, often-overlooked angle, the work challenges the audience to confront a perspective that is usually ignored or invisible.

This viewpoint is important because it represents more than just a physical angle—it's a representation of an entire existence. It forces the viewer to consider the individual behind the circumstance and to see the urban landscape not as a backdrop for daily life, but as a space that is lived in, slept in, and navigated from a very different position. It encourages a moment of empathy, prompting us to look up and see the same sky, but from a perspective that may have never crossed our minds before.
